The island is a delightful mixture of sugar white sand, golden beaches and black sand beaches painted by volcanic activity. It is estimated that there are over 120 beaches on the island. And while many famous beaches are located right outside your hotel room, there are a great deal of stunning beaches accessible only by boat or adventuresome treks via four-wheel drives, long hikes or combinations of all three!
The island continues to attract growing numbers of visitors who are drawn to her natural splendor and appreciate her living reefs, towering mountains, lush forests and exotic and unique beaches. So use the following beach guide to enhance your visit and find your place in the Caribbean sun!
North and West Coast Beaches
Castries is the Capital City. The beaches found to the north and south of Castries are palm-fringed cove beaches.- City Beach - Right outside of Castries you will find Choc Bay Beach (also known as Palm Beach) and Vigie Beach. These beaches are clean and have shade trees, the Rendezvous Beach Resort is located on Vigie Beach.
- Popular hang-outs - Locals enjoy Marisule Beach and Labrellotte Bay Beach.
- Beach dining - At Labrellotte Bay you can enjoy good food at the Windjammer Landing or East Winds Restaurant.
As you head north of Castries you will find many beach resorts. Head far north (about 45 minutes) to the beautiful area around Pigeon Island and work your way back.
- Hike and Beach - There are several beautiful cove beaches found near Pigeon Island. The historic island is linked to the mainland by a causeway. On the island that was once home to a British fort you will find spectacular sandy beaches that are enjoyable by adding a easy hike up to a 359 foot rock promontory. Hikers are rewarded by panoramic views of the ocean, beaches and surrounding mountains.
- Snorkeling beach - Just north of Pigeon Island look for the Club St. Lucia Resort. At the Smuggler's Cove you will find good snorkeling.
- Beach by the Bay - Drop into Rodney Bay. Here you will find the golden sands of Reduit Beach. There will be a lot of people and activity in the area because this is where you find the resorts of the Royal St. Lucian and the Rex St. Lucian. You can take advantage of their facilities such as bars, restaurants and watersports concession. This is a great place for parasailing and boating. You can rent a boat at the marina and scout out many of the remote beaches approachable only from the sea.
